![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To help you get started, and without any of the negative side effects of the ancient skull-removal procedure known as trepanning, (which I am considering performing on the rats), I present to you my top tips for anyone starting a leisurely game of Ooblets. I recommend you take a brain vacation with me. None of the game’s mechanics - not planting crops, not decorating your home, not collecting squidgy Ooblets, nor engaging them in dance battles - require more than two micro units of higher-level brain power, which is currently my ideal level of cognitive function. It's different enough to be worth a shot but may get kinda dry when you see all the systems get repetitive. To me, the whole appeal of Ooblets is its ability to liquefy your thoughts into happy, oozing non-thoughts. I'd still recommend this game to anyone that finds it on sale. I think its the type of game I'd probably have to completly invest my time into from start to finish but I just didn't like it enough to feel the need to do that. I don't usually have this problem as I play a lot of life sim type of games but this just didn't feel intuitive. It didn't feel pick up and play friendly as I sorta had to relearn everything if i put this down for a week as the amount of systems felt a bit tedious to all keep track of and a bit directionless. ![]() I also had a hard time getting into the gameplay loop. I totally don't mind games that arnt flashy with its visuals and channels a specific art style instead but this just felt very odd to me. It has this cheap indie aethetic that I couldn't really get into. The art style I think is what i found a little grating. The ooblets having 3 different color pallettes to each just didn't feel rewarding enough and felt like a way to artificially inflate how many ooblets there are. I found it to be really repetitive and the amount of ooblets unimpressive or just not standout/interesting enough to care. At $30 I just didn't feel there was enough to be worth it. I think I would have felt better with this game if i had spent maybe $10 on it. Very quirky and cute game but didn't really resonate with me personally as something very memorable. ![]()
